Lisinopril side effects

The lisinopril is a medicine that is used to treat the hypertension, to treat the myocardial infraction, as a treatment for the congestive failure and as a preventive medication against progression of the nephropathy in people who are suffering diabetes mellitus. The medicine itself is found in different sizes, the one with 5,10, 20 and 40 mg. This medicine should not be taken by a woman who is pregnant and it can cause mortality or morbidity in the infants. Women who are in child bearing age and who are not using any precaution should take the medicine with care.

There are many lisinopril side effects that can be identified with the people who are taking it. Some are just common and you may not need to use any other medicine while others are serious and you will have to go to hospital to be treated.

The common side effect is the persistent cough, even is this can stop when the medicine has been stopped. In some cases it can persist and it can go away after sometime after the medicine has been stopped.

Other side effects can be

-         headaches

-         dizziness

-         severe hypotension

-         blood pressure

-         lightheadedness

-         diarrhea, abdominal pain

-         increased potassium in the blood

-         fatigue

 

The serious lisinopril side effects can be in the form of the following symptoms

-         The swelling of the mouth, lip and airway known as angioedema

-         The swelling also can take place in bowel and it can cause complicated allergic

-         The elevated potassium sometime can lead to the hyperkalemia which can even cause death

-         Sometime the renal impairment can take place.

-         When used in pregnancy, the fetus can die or can have abnormality when used in the first trimester.

The person who is taking this medicine should be continuously under observation for the renal functions and to stop it whenever there is any cause of alarm. Sometime the lisinopril side effects can become too serious according to the medications that are being used with the lisinopril. If it is used with any ARB medication it may lead to a hyperkalemia, if there is any need to use these drugs together, then a close monitoring should be made by a qualified doctor. The doctor, who prescribes these medications, should do it only if there is no any other alternative. Pregnant women or these who are lactating should take the lisinopril with caution.

The people who are on diuretic should also take these medicines under monitoring since it can decrease the blood pressure.

For adult who need to take the medicine, the patient should begin by taking 10 mg and can only use 20 up to 40 mg when it is taken orally for maintenance. In some cases the patient can need to take up to 80 mg but there is no enough experience with high dosage. For the people who are on a diuretic medicine should take less dosage. The recommended one is 5 mg per day.
