
The oxycodone is one of the opioid analgesic medications that has been made from the opium ingredient known as thebaine. It is prescribed for severe or even moderate pain. It is made as a single ingredient or sometime it can be used as a compound in other products. For example the ibuprofen is the compound of the oxycodone and pracetamol or acetaminophen. Some of the variation can be sold as generic while others are sold under brand names.
The oxycodone is used to treat the severe chronic or acute pain. The quality of life of the people with chronic pain has improved life regardless of the type of the pain. The oxycodone has been proved to be the second medicine other than morphine to treat people with cancer pain. However in some cases the oxycodone is better than morphine.
Many people can have different side effects according to the medicine they are taking. Some can be minor while others can be too bothersome and you may need to consult the doctor. The oxycodone is not an exception from other medicines and there are oxycodone side effects that you should know about if you or someone in your family is taking it.

When a person stops taking the oxycodone he may suffer more the oxycodone side effects together with the withdrawal symptoms. To reduce the seriousness of the withdrawal problem, the patient should stop taking the medicine gradually and not abruptly. The patient who is using the oxycodone without proper dosage, he is at high risk of developing withdraw symptoms than the patient who takes it under the doctor’s observation. The withdraw symptoms include the nausea, anxiety, insomnia, muscle weakness, muscle pain, flu like symptoms and fevers.
The medicine can be administered in different ways such as the intranasally, orally, intramuscular, intravenous, rectally or even subcutaneous. The bioavailability of the oral and rectal administration yield the result of 60 – 87 percent success. The required dosage is 2.5 mg every six hours. The dosage will be increased as the patient needs increase. However the dosage should never exceed 30 mg and if the need arise to do it, then precaution has to be taken. Patient with cancer requires taking at least 105 mg everyday. For a child who is less than 50 kg, he should take 0.05 up to 0.15 mg for a kg every 6 hours and the person with more 50 kg will have to begin using 5mg for every 6 hours.
